From rote learning to real success: Ayush Rane

Every educator knows a student's true potential cannot be measured by a single difficult exam. For eighth-grader Ayush Rane, a final report card with 54% in Mathematics and 48% in Science brought a wave of anxiety.

The challenge

Ayush was not lacking effort. He was caught in a cycle of rote learning—memorising formulas and steps without truly understanding the concepts behind them. His mother recognised that the move to the Class 9 curriculum could widen these gaps, and reached out to Usha Tutorials in June, two months before the mid-term examinations.

A shift in approach

Instead of beginning with standard test drills, Usha Ma'am looked at how Ayush approached each problem. The core issue was clear: Mathematics and Science had become subjects to memorise rather than understand.

The strategy shifted to deep conceptual clarity. Complex mathematical theorems and scientific laws were broken down through relatable, real-world analogies. Ayush was encouraged to ask why an equation worked, not only how to reach the answer.

Confidence follows clarity

Gradually, anxiety turned into curiosity. Ayush began to recognise patterns instead of seeing only confusing formulas. Replacing the pressure of memorisation with genuine understanding helped his confidence grow.

The result

In the final CBSE Class 9 examinations, Ayush achieved 92% in Mathematics, 79% in Science, and an 84% overall average. The journey from the high 40s to 92% was an important academic milestone—and a meaningful change in how he saw his own ability.
